There is nothing wrong with a traditional wedding... but if it doesn’t feel quite right for you there is no reason you should feel that you need to do things in a traditional way. It’s a personal and special occasion and the way you celebrate it should reflect that and do it justice. So whether you’re thinking of putting a subtle twist on tradition, or if you want to tear up the rule book and start from scratch, you don’t have to let the way that everyone does it be the way that you do it!

 What about the law?

You may be surprised to discover all of the incredibly impressive venues that are available for you to hold a wedding ceremony and register your marriage at the same time. Just check out this amazing dam in mid-Wales as an example!

But it is worth remembering that there is a big difference between having a wedding and registering a marriage.

Just because the law restricts where, when and how you can register your marriage, you are not restricted on where, when or how you have your wedding. You wanna get married on a mountaintop? Let’s do it! In a swimming pool? What’s stopping you? In an aeroplane, on a beach, in your back garden, on a rooftop, in an underground cave… you can do it!

So that’s one restriction out of the way. But what about other restrictions? Like… what we can say during the ceremony? Who can conduct it? What time of day can we have it?

Any restriction you can think of is really about registering your marriage, which, again, is vastly different to having your wedding. The short answer to all of those questions is whatever, whoever, or whenever you like! This isn’t just about writing your vows… you can write the whole thing.
